FAQ

Questions, answered.

Can I recover the password if I forget it?

No. There's no backdoor or recovery path — that's what makes the encryption real. Store the password somewhere safe.

What's the difference between the password and owner password?

The password is required to open the file at all. The owner password governs permissions (printing, copying, etc.) and defaults to the same value if left blank.

Will this work in Adobe Reader and other viewers?

Yes — AES-256 encryption is part of the PDF standard and is supported by every major reader.
